MEET THE TORTOISES

We get asked all the time why we have tortoises. Our reply, WHY NOT!

The prehistoric reptiles are a must see during your visit. You will be amazed by the speed of the giant Sulcatta Tortoise, and fall in love with the social red-foot tortoises. Did you know that the Sulcatta Tortoise can live up to 150 years old!? Our oldest Sulcatta is 36 years old (still a teenager in tortoise years). Check out a few of our tortoises below to learn more!

MEET Felix

He is a 36 year old Sulcatta Tortoise. He is the old man in the group. You will notice that his shell has some deformation. This was caused by a heat lamp when he was just a little guy. He is extremely friendly and loves roaming around the farm in the summer months. His favourite food is cherry tomatoes fresh off the vines.

MEET Molly & mable

Meet the twins. Molly and Mable are Red foot tortoises, who originate in the amazonian rain forest. They are extremely social and love to come over and say hello! They are nine years old and recently Mable laid her first clutch of eggs!

MEET Tom

Tom is an 11 year old Sulcatta Tortoise. He is our first male sulcatta. His favourite past time is walking down the street with Paul and meeting up with our guests on the street. His absolute favourite food is cucumbers. Contrary to most people’s belief, tortoises are much faster than you think. He thinks he is the Alfa in the enclosure. Only when Felix isn’t around.

MEET Turbo

She is a four year Red Foot tortoise. She is the smallest in the enclosure and extremely social. She may be small, but she is certainly mighty. She doesn’t let any of the other tortoises push her around. Turbo loves strawberries and grape leaves when they are in season. She can often been seen sprawled out in the sun, enjoying some rays!

Want to ask a tortoise about their life?

They may be slow to respond, but you can ask them anything.
